Biodiversity meets pest control!

Regenerative agriculture has many front lines to engage with. Traditional topics such as cover crops; soil health and composting are regular in training sessions. However, when we embrace biodiversity at the farm level, other topics such as ecosystem services and bat contributions can be both refreshing and innovative. Bats are great indicators for the overall health of ecosystems and their presence has the potential to exponentially boost pest control and pollination.

Companies participating in the Nestle Responsible Sourcing Program (RSP) know this and are committed to learning how to best support bat populations on their farm and set up a bat monitoring system that will help them improve the ecosystem services on their farms. This is why farmers and technicians came together on November 21, 2024 to join a session about Bat Monitoring in Lüchow, Germany. Led by the implementing partners of RSP, the session allowed participants to engage in meaningful discussions on how to establish effective measures for the coming years to support bat populations in their region.

“This is a great way to improve biodiversity and the ecosystems services in our farms,” Christof. Cultivation Advisor, Steinicke
